Liverpool face Arsenal in the Premier League with three absences, but Mac Allister returns

Liverpool host Arsenal this Sunday (31) at Anfield in a Premier League clash between the reigning champions and last season’s runners-up. While the Reds have almost a full squad, Mikel Arteta’s side face the derby without three key attacking players.
Clash of giants with perfect starts
Both clubs arrive unbeaten after two rounds of the 2025/26 season. Arsenal top the table on goal difference, scoring six and conceding none so far. Liverpool, under new coach Arne Slot, also boast a 100% record and look to maintain momentum at Anfield.
The matchup promises intensity: two sides that thrive on attacking football, pressing high and controlling possession.
Liverpool boosted by Mac Allister return
Slot has nearly a complete squad at his disposal. Right-back Jeremie Frimpong (thigh), midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, and defender Rhys Williams remain sidelined, but none are regular starters.
The good news is the return of Alexis Mac Allister, absent in the last round for the birth of his son. The Argentine is expected to slot straight back into midfield.
Probable Liverpool lineup:
Alisson; Szoboszlai, Konaté, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Hugo Ekitike.
Arsenal weakened by offensive absences
Arsenal, in contrast, face major losses in their attack. Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz are sidelined with muscle and knee injuries, while Gabriel Jesus is still recovering from surgery.
Despite the setbacks, Arteta can still field a competitive side, with Martin Ødegaard and Viktor Gyökeres expected to lead the charge.
Probable Arsenal lineup:
Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, Calafiori; Ødegaard, Zubimendi, Rice; Madueke, Gyökeres, Gabriel Martinelli.
Anfield drought on the line
For Arsenal, the trip to Liverpool carries added weight: the Gunners have not won at Anfield since 2012. With both teams eyeing the top of the table, Sunday’s clash could shape the early title race.
