Roma agree deal to sign Liverpool’s Kostas Tsimikas on loan until June

Roma have reached an agreement with Liverpool to take left-back Kostas Tsimikas on loan until the end of the 2025/26 season. The move comes after the Greek defender lost space at Anfield following the arrival of Milos Kerkez.
Transfer confirmed before deadline
With the European summer window closing on Monday (01), Roma moved quickly to secure the 29-year-old. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal, stating that the player has been cleared to travel and undergo medicals in Italy.
“Loan deal closed with Liverpool as he was allowed to travel and undergo medicals. Roma will cover his salary until June as Tsimikas really wanted the transfer,” Romano reported.
Competition in Serie A
At Roma, Tsimikas will fight for minutes against Angeliño and youngster Anass Salah-Edine. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini has favored a back-three formation, using his full-backs in more advanced wing-back roles.
The Greek international, known for his crossing ability and stamina, is expected to provide much-needed depth on the flanks as Roma look to challenge domestically and in Europe.
Why Tsimikas left Liverpool
The signing of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth reshaped Liverpool’s depth chart. With Andrew Robertson already established as first-choice, Tsimikas found himself as the third option and pushed for a move to guarantee playing time.
Since joining Liverpool in 2020 from Olympiacos, Tsimikas has collected multiple titles, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and two League Cups. His contract with the Reds runs until 2027, meaning he will return to Anfield once the loan ends.
Liverpool’s transfer window activity
Liverpool have seen several departures this summer, including vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, alongside Tsimikas’s exit. Manager Arne Slot has also reshaped his squad with new signings as the club defends its Premier League crown.
