Nike Confirms Interest in Renewing Sponsorship Deal With Corinthians Amid Adidas Offer

As Corinthians weighs a potential switch to Adidas for 2026, Nike has officially reaffirmed its interest in extending its two-decade-long partnership with the São Paulo club. The American sportswear giant released a statement expressing its commitment to continuing its relationship with the Brazilian football powerhouse, which has lasted over 20 years.
Nike Wants to Extend Historic Partnership With Corinthians Beyond 2029
Facing increasing speculation around a potential sponsorship shift, Nike stepped forward with a public statement, emphasizing its historic connection with Corinthians and its intent to renew the deal beyond 2029, the date set by an automatic extension clause in the current agreement.
“We are proud of our partnership that has spanned more than 20 years a relationship built on shared values and a deep connection with the club’s passionate fans,” said Doug Bowles, Nike’s Vice President and General Manager for Latin America.
“We are encouraged by the new administration’s openness to dialogue and are prepared to resume discussions on extending this legacy beyond 2029,” Bowles added.
Adidas and Corinthians: An Ongoing Negotiation
The Corinthians Deliberative Council recently confirmed a meeting held on May 28 with Adidas representatives to explore a possible transition. While no official deal has been signed, the German brand’s interest signals a potentially major shift in the Brazilian football sponsorship landscape.
If Corinthians signs with Adidas, they would join an elite roster of clubs including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Juventus, Liverpool, and Arsenal.
Nike’s Broader Strategy in Brazil
Should Corinthians make the switch, Nike would lose its presence in São Paulo football but the brand is doubling down in other key regions. Starting in 2026, Nike will sponsor Atlético-MG, replacing Adidas in Minas Gerais, and has already locked in a seven-year deal with Vasco da Gama in Rio de Janeiro. The brand is also in talks with Grêmio, continuing its push to maintain relevance in Brazil’s top-flight football.
A Legacy of Campaigns and Cultural Impact
Nike highlighted several iconic campaigns and collaborations in its official statement, including:
- “Corinthiano Roxo”
- “República Popular do Corinthians”
- Tributes like the Ayrton Senna jersey
- Anti-racism initiatives such as the blackout shirt
- The recent 25th anniversary celebration of the 2000 Club World Cup title
Through these efforts, Nike has not only outfitted the team but also shaped cultural conversations around the club’s identity and values
“Nike, through FISIA its official distributor in Brazil remains committed to delivering innovation and strengthening the voice of the Corinthians community,” the statement concluded.
