Memphis Depay is one goal away from becoming the Netherlands’ all-time top scorer

Memphis Depay could make history with the Dutch national team this Thursday (04). The Corinthians striker faces Poland in the World Cup Qualifiers and needs just one goal to surpass Robin van Persie as the Netherlands’ all-time leading scorer.

Depay Tied with Van Persie

At 31, Depay has already scored 50 goals for the Oranje, the same tally Van Persie achieved before retiring in 2019. If he scores against Poland, Depay will stand alone at the top of the Netherlands’ scoring charts.

Despite a career across giants like Barcelona, Manchester United, Atlético de Madrid, Lyon, and PSV, Depay now plays for Corinthians, where he regained form after losing space in European football.

Dutch National Team’s Top 10 Scorers

Depay is currently the only active player in the Netherlands’ top 10 scorers list, which highlights the historic nature of his potential achievement:

  • Robin van Persie – 50
  • Memphis Depay – 50
  • Klaas-Jan Huntelaar – 42
  • Patrick Kluivert – 40
  • Dennis Bergkamp – 37
  • Arjen Robben – 37
  • Faas Wilkes – 35
  • Ruud van Nistelrooy – 35
  • Abe Lenstra – 33
  • Johan Cruyff – 33

Netherlands’ Next Matches

The Netherlands play Poland today (04) at 3:45 pm (Brasília time) and then face Lithuania on Sunday (07) at 1 pm. Both matches are decisive in Group G of the qualifiers, where the Dutch sit second with six points, behind leaders Finland with seven.

Only the group winners qualify directly for the World Cup, while runners-up fight for a place through the playoffs.
