Manchester United considers surprise Marco Verratti move in January transfer window

Manchester United is preparing a surprise move for the winter transfer market. According to Fichajes, the Old Trafford club is evaluating the signing of Marco Verratti, the former PSG star who currently plays for Al-Duhail in Qatar.
Verratti on United’s Radar
At 32, Verratti is no longer in the European spotlight, but United’s board believes his technical quality and experience could strengthen Ruben Amorim’s midfield. The Red Devils also view his potential signing as financially viable, since the Italian is far from the elite market.
From PSG Glory to Qatar
The midfielder, considered one of the best of his generation, spent 11 seasons at PSG, winning multiple domestic titles. In 2023, he left Europe to join Al-Arabi, before moving to Al-Duhail this year.
Since arriving in Qatar, Verratti has played 40 matches, contributing four goals and 11 assists. Despite being away from top-level football, he remains a highly respected figure internationally.
United’s Market Strategy
Manchester United closed the summer transfer window with major investments in attack, signing Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško. The board also explored the possibility of bringing back veteran Danny Welbeck, but the Brighton striker remained in the Premier League.
With Verratti now on the radar, the focus for January shifts to reinforcing the midfield—an area where Amorim still sees room for improvement.
