Mbappé opposes France vs. Argentina rematch in 2022 World Cup final

Kylian Mbappé has made it clear he does not support the idea of a rematch between France and Argentina, a proposal that has been under consideration by the French Football Federation. The Real Madrid star believes the game is unnecessary amid an already packed calendar.
France considered a “revenge” friendly
According to L’Équipe, the French Football Federation (FFF) studied the possibility of organizing a friendly clash against Argentina, reviving the iconic 2022 World Cup final, where Lionel Messi’s side triumphed on penalties to claim their third world crown.
The initiative was reportedly linked to a fundraising project, with the match promoted as a symbolic revenge encounter between the two finalists.
Why Mbappé said no
Mbappé, however, is strongly against the idea. The French captain has communicated to FFF president Philippe Diallo that he does not want the game to take place. His reasoning is simple: too much travel and too many matches already dominate the schedule for both club and national team.
The 25-year-old striker, who has just started his first season with Real Madrid, believes such a high-profile friendly would add unnecessary pressure and fatigue to an already intense year.
France’s next official challenge
Instead of a rematch, Les Bleus will focus on the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. France, under Didier Deschamps, faces Ukraine this Friday (September 5) at the Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw, Poland. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. (Brasília time).
A victory is crucial for France to secure an early lead in the group and avoid complications later in the campaign.
