The 2030 World Cup qualifiers could take place without Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay, according to reports. FIFA is expected to confirm the decision soon during its next official congress.
Why these three teams may be excluded
Although the tournament will be jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, three symbolic opening matches are scheduled in Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay to honor the centenary of the first World Cup in 1930.
For this reason, FIFA considers them “ceremonial hosts,” granting them automatic qualification for the tournament. If confirmed, only seven South American nations would compete for the remaining spots: Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile.

Meanwhile, the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in South America are entering their final stretch. With just two rounds to play, Argentina leads the standings and will bid farewell to Lionel Messi on home soil before the tournament.
