PSG full-back eases defeat to Real and focuses on Club World Cup title

Despite PSG’s stunning 4-0 victory over Real Madrid, full-back Nuno Mendes warns that only a win in the final will give the result true meaning.
PSG Shifts Gears After Humbling Real Madrid in Club World Cup Semifinal
Paris Saint-Germain delivered a dominant display in the Club World Cup semifinal, defeating Spanish giants Real Madrid 4-0 in one of the most one-sided matches of the tournament. But for PSG left-back Nuno Mendes, the victory will only matter if the team lifts the trophy on Sunday.
The Club World Cup Final is set for July 13 at 4:00 PM (Brasília time), at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. PSG will face Chelsea, who booked their place with a solid 2-0 win over Fluminense.
“We Have to Win the Title,” Says Mendes
In a post-match interview, Mendes emphasized that beating Real Madrid the most decorated club in European football won’t mean much unless PSG finishes the job.
“We could have lost too, but I think it was a great game. The team played well. Just because we beat Real Madrid in the semifinal doesn’t mean we’re in a better mood,” said Mendes.
“If we reach the final against Chelsea, play poorly, and lose, winning against Real won’t mean anything. We have to give our best and win the game.”
Confidence Runs High in PSG Camp, Says Beraldo
While Mendes struck a cautious tone, Brazilian defender Lucas Beraldo took a more confident approach. A starter in the semifinal, Beraldo believes PSG’s performance proves they are ready to claim the world title.
“Regardless of who we faced, we were going to give our best. Against Real Madrid, we executed our plan perfectly and won with authority,” said Beraldo.
“This gives us a lot of confidence for the final. It’s a game to crown our season with another title. We’ll prepare the best we can to win on Sunday.”
Final Showdown: PSG vs Chelsea
Both clubs are eyeing their first Club World Cup title under the tournament’s new format. PSG arrives as UEFA Champions League winners, while Chelsea comes off a Conference League triumph under new manager Enzo Maresca.
