Trump Booed and Applauded During Club World Cup Final Trophy Ceremony

The U.S. President handed Chelsea their championship trophy in a politically charged moment at MetLife Stadium.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain ended in celebration for the English side, but the post-match trophy ceremony delivered unexpected drama and not just from the players.

U.S. President Donald Trump, in attendance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, took to the pitch alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino to award the champions and was met with a mix of applause and boos from the packed stadium crowd.

Mixed Reactions from the Crowd

Broadcasts from CazéTV and TV Globo, who covered the match live, reported that Trump’s appearance triggered more boos than cheers as he walked onto the field. Despite the divided reception, the president remained involved throughout the presentation.

Trump congratulated the referees and later joined Infantino to hand out individual and team awards, including the MVP trophy to Chelsea’s standout performer Cole Palmer.

Trump Celebrates with Chelsea Players

In an unusual twist, Trump lingered on the podium and was seen celebrating alongside Chelsea players during the trophy presentation even as Infantino appeared to subtly gesture for the president to step back from the spotlight.

Despite the awkward moment, Chelsea’s players continued with their celebration after defeating PSG 3-0 to claim their second Club World Cup title.

The trophy ceremony concluded with fireworks and patriotic smoke displays in red, white, and blue, marking the end of the inaugural expanded FIFA Club World Cup, which was hosted entirely in the United States.

While Trump’s presence added a political edge to the festivities, the football took center stage and Chelsea left New Jersey as world champions once again.
