Como 1907 Dreams Big: The Richest Club in Italy Wants Cristiano Ronaldo for European Push

Backed by billionaire owners, the newly-promoted Serie A side wants to land the biggest name in world football Cristiano Ronaldo.

In a move that’s shocking the European football market, Como 1907, Serie A’s newest powerhouse in the making, is reportedly plotting an ambitious bid to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Saudi giants Al Nassr. At 40 years old, the Portuguese icon continues to perform at elite levels, most recently shining with Portugal in the UEFA Nations League.

The Richest Club in Italy… But Who Are They?

Though still unknown to many casual fans, Como 1907 is backed by the Djarum Group, a multibillion-dollar Indonesian conglomerate owned by brothers Robert Budi Hartono and Michael Bambang Hartono, who reportedly earn €4 million per hour, according to Forbes.

That makes Como the richest club in Italy wealthier than Juventus, Milan, Inter, or Napoli despite their modest history and recent promotion to the top flight.

Cristiano Ronaldo: Como’s Top Target

According to Calciomercato, Cristiano Ronaldo is the No.1 transfer target for Como 1907, with the club looking to make a splash in Serie A and launch a bid for European qualification in 2025/26.

“Como believe their financial power and long-term project could lure Ronaldo away from Al Nassr,” the report states.

However, the plan hits a major obstacle: Ronaldo was key in bringing Jorge Jesus to Al Nassr, signaling a strong commitment to remain in Saudi Arabia at least in the short term.

Como’s Ambition: More Than Just a Dream

Last season, Como 1907 impressed in their first Serie A campaign after promotion, finishing 10th under Cesc Fàbregas, who even turned down an offer from Inter Milan to continue his project at the club.

Now, Como is the 8th-highest spending club in all of Europe this summer, investing nearly €90 million in signings more than Arsenal and Brighton, per Football365.

Recent transfers include:

  • Martin Baturina – €18 million
  • Maxence Caqueret – €15 million
  • Anastasios Douvikas – €14 million
  • Assane Diao – €12 million

Why Cristiano Ronaldo?

Despite earning around €550,000 per day in Saudi Arabia, Como is reportedly ready to offer Ronaldo a competitive salary package, combined with the allure of:

  • A return to Serie A, where he previously starred for Juventus
  • A leadership role in one of Italy’s most ambitious projects
  • European football, if Como achieves qualification

More importantly, Ronaldo would become the face of a rising club with unlimited financial backing a tempting scenario for any superstar nearing the final stages of their career.

The Verdict: Unlikely, But Not Impossible

Signing Cristiano Ronaldo would be the most audacious move in Como’s modern history, and while it’s unlikely given his recent commitments in Saudi Arabia, Como’s wealth and vision make it a story to watch.

Could we see Ronaldo shock the world once again with a return to Serie A — in Como colors?
