Sporting Makes €13M Bid to Reignite Pursuit of Juventus Right-Back Alberto Costa

The Lions are back in the market for the talented Portuguese defender, but Juventus isn’t budging.
Sporting CP has reignited its interest in Alberto Costa, presenting a new offer to Juventus in an effort to land the 21-year-old right-back. The bid, reportedly €13 million fixed plus €5 million in performance-related add-ons, marks Sporting’s second serious attempt to sign the player after missing out in the winter transfer window.
However, Juventus seems unwilling to negotiate, viewing Costa as a key figure for the upcoming season under head coach Igor Tudor.
Deal Details: €13M + €5M Offer Rejected
According to ZeroZero, Sporting approached the Italian giants with a €13M guaranteed offer, plus an additional €5M in objectives. The Portuguese side hoped the financial package would convince Juve to part ways with Costa, who only arrived in January 2025 from Vitória de Guimarães for €12.5 million.
But the answer from Turin was clear: not for sale.
Juventus views Costa as “indispensable” to their project, and he’s already scheduled to participate in their preseason starting July 23.
What Does Alberto Costa Want?
Sporting’s main obstacle might not be Juventus it’s the player himself.
Despite his short time in Italy, Alberto Costa is determined to succeed in Serie A. Sources close to the player say he wants to fight for a starting spot and has no immediate plans to return to Portugal.
That makes Sporting’s proposal, for now, a long shot.
Still, the Lions are banking on their ace card: Rui Borges, Sporting’s current coach, who previously managed Costa and gave him prominence at Vitória SC. The pair have a strong working relationship one that Sporting hopes could tilt the scales in their favor.
Context: A Winter Failure Revisited
Sporting already failed once to sign Alberto Costa back in January 2025. Despite strong interest, the club couldn’t match Vitória de Guimarães’ asking price, and Juventus swooped in to seal the deal.
Even Brighton entered the race at one point, but Costa rejected a move to the Premier League, holding out for a top-tier project which he found in Italy.
