Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller nears deal with MLS’s Vancouver Whitecaps

Thomas Müller is close to joining Vancouver Whitecaps FC in what would be one of the most high-profile signings in Major League Soccer this season. The 35-year-old German legend, who recently left Bayern Munich after his contract was not renewed, is reportedly finalizing a deal with the Canadian club.
MLS Move After Historic Bayern Career
According to Sky Germany, Vancouver has overtaken other contenders, including Los Angeles FC and FC Cincinnati, to become the frontrunner for Müller’s signature. The 2014 World Cup winner has also been linked with Brazilian clubs Grêmio and Internacional, but sources indicate his MLS debut will likely come in Canada.
Müller becomes available on a free transfer after concluding a 15-year first-team career at Bayern Munich, where he became the club’s all-time appearance leader with 743 matches.
Still Effective in Final Season
Despite entering the twilight of his career, Müller remained productive in the 2024/25 season. He featured in 49 games, contributing 8 goals and 8 assists across competitions in 1,921 minutes, mostly as a substitute.
While his impact remained noticeable, Bayern Munich’s board opted not to extend his deal as they prepare for a generational shift.
Legacy at Bayern: A Club Icon
Müller leaves Bayern Munich as one of the most decorated players in German football history. He scored 247 goals, provided 220 assists, and lifted 33 trophies, including 11 Bundesliga titles and 2 UEFA Champions League trophies.
The potential move to Vancouver Whitecaps represents not just a sporting acquisition but also a major marketing opportunity for the Canadian side as they look to raise their profile both domestically and internationally.
