Liverpool considering Rodrygo signing, but Salah comments raise concerns

As speculation intensifies over Rodrygo’s future at Real Madrid, Liverpool has emerged as a serious contender for the Brazilian winger. However, a potential transfer to Anfield could be complicated by past remarks Rodrygo made about Mohamed Salah, which may stir tensions inside the Reds’ dressing room.
Liverpool Eyes Rodrygo Amid Díaz Exit
Liverpool is actively seeking a replacement for Luis Díaz, who recently completed a move to Bayern Munich. According to reports from England and Spain, Rodrygo is one of the top targets for the Merseyside club, with Real Madrid setting an £86 million (€100M) price tag for the player.
With the arrival of Kylian Mbappé at the Bernabéu, Rodrygo’s minutes have become uncertain, prompting speculation that a move to the Premier League could offer him a fresh start. Arsenal is also reportedly in the race, but Liverpool has taken the lead.
Past Controversy: Rodrygo’s Comments About Salah
Despite his talent, Rodrygo’s arrival at Liverpool could create a dressing room dilemma due to his 2018 and 2022 comments targeting Mohamed Salah. In a resurfaced interview, the Brazilian admitted that Real Madrid players mocked Salah ahead of their Champions League final clash in 2022.
The incident stems from Salah’s quest for “revenge” following Liverpool’s loss in the 2018 final, where he was injured after a challenge by Sergio Ramos. In 2022, Salah reignited the rivalry by publicly declaring: “We have a score to settle.”
Rodrygo, appearing on the Podpah YouTube channel, recalled how the Madrid locker room responded: “When someone provokes you, you want to win just to mock them later. In training, we’d say, ‘Come on, Salah, come on Salah.’ We had to win to laugh at him afterward.”
Real Madrid went on to defeat Liverpool 1–0, with Vinícius Jr. scoring the decisive goal, and Salah’s words became fodder for Madrid’s internal motivation.
Dressing Room Dynamics a Key Factor
While Liverpool manager Arne Slot is known for his man-management skills and integration of new signings, such as Hugo Ekitike, Rodrygo’s past statements may pose an early test of locker room harmony, especially with Salah still central to the squad.
Whether Liverpool will pursue Rodrygo aggressively—or whether Salah himself would green-light such a move—remains to be seen.
