Former Manchester United star wants Luis Suarez fight
Patrice Evra will make his MMA debut on May 23 and is already thinking about facing his former rival
For over a decade, Patrice Evra stood out for Monaco , Manchester United and Juventus as one of the best left-backs in world football. At 43, seven seasons after retiring, the former international is set to venture into a new sport.
The professional fighters’ league announced that Evra will make his MMA debut on May 23, at the PFL Europe Paris event. According to the French press, the former left-back has been preparing for a career in the world of combat sports since 2016, alongside his friend and fighter Cédric Doumbé.
Evra stressed that he is ready to make his debut in the sport: «I also love this game. I have played on the biggest stages in the world, I have won all the major trophies, but PGL Europe Paris will be a special night for me.»
In a statement, the left-back who represented Manchester United between 2005/06 and 2013/14 also mentioned a big name to face in his second fight as an amateur fighter: « Luis Suárez . I pay with my own money. He’ll probably even bite me.»
It should be remembered that animosity between Evra and Suárez has lasted for more than 13 years, after the French full-back accused the Uruguayan forward of racism during a clash between Liverpool and Manchester United in October 2011.
