Kahn surprises by saying that Thomas Müller is the only irreplaceable player in Bayern’s history

Bayern Munich legend and former CEO Oliver Kahn has stunned fans and pundits by naming Thomas Müller as the only irreplaceable player in the club’s history, following the midfielder’s emotional departure after 25 years at the club.

“No One Can Replace Müller,” Says Kahn

In an interview with Kicker, Kahn emphasized the unique role Müller played throughout his career at the Allianz Arena. “Throughout its history, Bayern Munich has always replaced great players. However, right now I don’t see anyone who can fill Thomas Müller’s role,” Kahn stated.

Müller, known for his unorthodox style and tactical intelligence, concluded his final season with Bayern having made 49 appearances, scoring 16 goals, mostly coming off the bench.

Departure to Vancouver Whitecaps

At 35, Müller found himself on the fringes of Vincent Kompany’s new-look squad, with younger talents like Lennart Karl and Paul Wanner taking priority. With limited playing time and no extension in sight, Müller opted to leave the Bundesliga and has reportedly signed with Vancouver Whitecaps in Major League Soccer (MLS).

The Canadian club sought a high-profile addition, and Müller’s leadership and experience made him the ideal fit for a squad looking to climb in the MLS rankings.

Müller’s Legacy: The “Raumdeuter”

Nicknamed the Raumdeuter (space interpreter), Müller became a symbol of tactical versatility. Over the course of his career, he played in seven different positions, adapting seamlessly across midfield and forward lines.

His 756 appearances for Bayern yielded 250 goals and 276 assists, securing his place among the club’s all-time greats. His trophy cabinet includes 11 Bundesliga titles, 2 Champions League trophies, and a World Cup title with Germany in 2014.
