After Xhaka’s departure, Bayer Leverkusen gives the green light to the sale of Hradecky to Monaco

Finnish goalkeeper set to join Ligue 1 club as squad overhaul continues in Germany
Bayer Leverkusen is preparing for another key departure this summer, as goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky has agreed to join AS Monaco, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. The move comes just days after the club confirmed the exit of midfielder Granit Xhaka, who returned to the Premier League.
The German side, fresh off a managerial change following Xabi Alonso’s departure, is undergoing a major squad rebuild ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.
Monaco move nearly finalized
Hradecky, 34, accepted Monaco’s proposal last week and is now in the final stages of completing the transfer. While the fee remains under negotiation, both clubs are confident a deal will be reached soon. Leverkusen has not placed any obstacles in the way of the transfer and has signaled its willingness to let the veteran shot-stopper move on.
No replacement expected
Leverkusen is not expected to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer. The club had already secured a new signing in that position earlier in the transfer window, and internal sources suggest the current squad will provide adequate coverage between the posts.
Hradecky leaves the Bundesliga side after nearly seven seasons, having served as captain and played a key role in their domestic and European campaigns.
Major transition for Leverkusen
The back-to-back departures of Xhaka and Hradecky signal a broader strategy of renewal at Bayer Leverkusen, who are expected to field a much younger core under new management. The club has yet to unveil all of its new recruits but is actively restructuring for long-term success.
