Young striker not in Blues’ first-team plans for the 2025–26 season
Chelsea are actively seeking a loan move for young striker Marc Guiu following head coach Enzo Maresca’s decision to exclude him from the first-team squad for the upcoming season. The 18-year-old is not expected to feature in the Premier League side’s immediate plans, and a short-term departure has already been greenlit.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Blues are exploring destinations where Guiu can gain experience and minutes at a competitive level. Championship club Sunderland has emerged as a potential suitor, though they face competition from at least three other clubs.
Sunderland lead early interest
While Sunderland has yet to submit a formal offer, club officials have expressed preliminary interest in securing Guiu’s services. The move would mark a key addition for the Black Cats as they look to bolster their attacking depth in a bid for promotion.
Chelsea is prioritizing game time for the player rather than retaining him on the bench. The club’s management believes a full season of regular football could significantly boost Guiu’s development and future value.
Loan terms under negotiation
Chelsea is not expected to block the transfer but has outlined specific conditions for the loan deal. Any club signing Guiu will be required to cover his full salary and pay a loan fee to complete the agreement.
The player recently joined Chelsea from Barcelona and has yet to make his competitive debut for the senior squad.
