PSG x Inter Miami: Messi suffers heavy defeat from his former team in the Club World Cup

Paris Saint-Germain made a bold statement at the FIFA Club World Cup, thrashing Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami 4–0 in a commanding performance on Sunday (June 29).
Playing at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the reigning UEFA Champions League winners dominated from the first whistle scoring all four goals in the first half and barely giving Inter Miami a chance to breathe.
First-Half Blitz: PSG Scores Four Before the Break
It didn’t take long for PSG to show their intent. By the 5th minute, João Neves had already headed in the opener from a Vitinha free kick. The Parisians kept control and suffocated Miami’s attack with Messi completely neutralized in the opening half.
- 38’: Neves doubled his tally after a costly error by Sergio Busquets.
- 41’: Avilés scored an unfortunate own goal.
- 45+1’: Hakimi finished a flowing move to make it 4–0 before halftime.
PSG outclassed Inter Miami across all sectors in the first 45 minutes, holding the ball, creating chances, and pressing high with Barcola, Kvaratskhelia, and Vitinha pulling the strings.
Messi Tries, but PSG Holds Firm in the Second Half
Inter Miami came out stronger after the break, with Messi attempting to rally the team:
- He set up Luis Suárez for a one-on-one chance just minutes in.
- Later, Messi forced Donnarumma into a solid save with a clever shot.
- He even tried a rare header, but nothing broke PSG’s solid backline.
Despite Miami’s improved showing, PSG continued to threaten through Barcola and Doué, though they couldn’t add to the score.
PSG managed the game professionally in the second half, preserving energy while still dominating the tempo.
