Lionel Messi had a rare off night in the Club World Cup as Inter Miami was dismantled 4–0 by Paris Saint-Germain and eliminated in the Round of 16.

In one of the most anticipated clashes of the tournament, Messi struggled to break free from PSG’s tight marking and ended the game without scoring or assisting a stat line that underscores how dominant the French champions were in Atlanta on Sunday (June 29).

PSG’s Game Plan: Silence the GOAT

From the opening whistle, Luis Enrique’s side focused on neutralizing Messi, and it worked to perfection:

  • First Half: The Argentine was virtually invisible, tightly marked by Marquinhos and Pacho, and saw little of the ball.
  • Halftime: PSG led 4–0, effectively ending Inter Miami’s hopes before the break.

Even with more space in the second half, PSG’s backline (Beraldo and Lucas Hernández) kept their cool, denying Messi any clear breakthrough.

Messi’s Stats vs PSG

According to Sofascore, here’s how the number 10 performed:

  • 4 total shots

2 blocked

1 on target (header saved by Donnarumma)

1 off target

  • 48 ball actions
  • 89% pass accuracy
  • 0 goals, 0 assists

It was one of Messi’s quietest nights on a big stage no goals, no magic, just a firm reminder of PSG’s defensive discipline.

End of the Road for Inter Miami

Inter Miami’s elimination marks the end of Messi’s Club World Cup campaign, while PSG marches on to the quarterfinals, where they will face the winner of Flamengo vs Bayern Munich.
