Real Madrid may opt for defensive solidity against PSG in high-stakes semi-final

Eduardo Camavinga could make his long-awaited FIFA Club World Cup debut as Real Madrid prepare to face Paris Saint-Germain in a blockbuster semi-final. The French midfielder, recently recovered from injury, may return to the lineup and in doing so, threaten Arda Güler’s place in the starting eleven.

Camavinga Back in Contention for Starting XI

After missing the opening rounds of the tournament due to injury, Camavinga is now fully fit and, according to Spanish outlet Cope, is in line to be included in Xabi Alonso’s squad. The Real Madrid staff has been testing several formations, and Camavinga’s versatility could prove vital given recent squad setbacks.

Tactical Shake-Up Expected After Red Card

The likely shift comes following the suspension of defender Dean Huijsen, which reduces the number of available defenders. This change may force coach Xabi Alonso to adjust his formation moving away from the frequently used 3-5-2 and 4-3-1-2 systems.

With the need for increased defensive stability, Real Madrid could revert to a more compact midfield trio, prioritizing players with high work rates and physical presence.

Güler at Risk Despite Impressive Form

One potential casualty of this shift is Arda Güler. The 19-year-old Turkish midfielder has been one of Los Blancos’ standout performers in the competition so far, contributing creatively and decisively in earlier matches.

However, against a high-pressing PSG side managed by Luis Enrique, Real Madrid may prioritize midfielders who can track back, press, and cover space areas where Camavinga excels.

Why Camavinga Could Be Key vs PSG

The French international is known for his defensive intelligence, ball-winning ability, and tactical discipline. Against PSG’s dynamic front line, including names like Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé, Real Madrid may seek Camavinga’s physicality and composure to neutralize threats from midfield.
