Corinthians head coach Lucas Piccinato has fired a warning shot ahead of their Women’s Club World Cup semi-final, insisting the “Brabas” are ready to defy the odds against American powerhouse Gotham FC.
Stepping Out of the Comfort Zone
The São Paulo-based side has finalized their preparations in London for what Piccinato describes as a “magical experience.” Facing the reigning NWSL champions and CONCACAF Champions Cup winners, Corinthians enters the clash as the underdog a role the manager fully embraces.
“It’s a challenge that takes us out of our comfort zone, but it’s delightful to experience this,” Piccinato told FIFA. “Facing elite teams from different continents pushes us to bring out our best. We are here to learn, but also to win and leave with the title.”
Financial Giants vs. Brazilian Passion
Piccinato was candid about the financial landscape of the tournament, acknowledging that Gotham FC and Arsenal are viewed as the favorites due to their massive investment power. However, he believes Corinthians can provide the tournament’s biggest surprise.
“Everyone probably thinks the favorites are the American and European sides because of their financial standing. We want to shock the world and bring this trophy to Brazil,” he added.
Debutants Ready to Shine
The “Brabas” could also see the highly-anticipated debuts of their latest marquee signings. Midfielder Ana Vitória and striker Belén Aquino have been training with the squad in London and are expected to play a crucial role in trying to dismantle the Gotham defense.
With a place in the final at stake, Corinthians is looking to prove that Brazilian club football can compete at the highest global level.
