Arsenal manager Renée Slegers has declared that the Gunners are “going all in” to secure the first-ever FIFA Women’s Champions Cup trophy on home soil.
Speaking exclusively to FIFA ahead of the semi-finals in London, Slegers emphasized that despite a challenging season domestically, the opportunity to be crowned world champions is a top priority for the club. Arsenal, who qualified as the reigning European champions after their historic 2025 Champions League victory, will face African giants AS FAR this Wednesday at the Gtech Community Stadium.
A New Global Stage
The tournament marks a new era for the women’s game, bringing together the champions of all six confederations. For Slegers, who recently signed a contract extension until 2029, the different format is a welcome challenge.
“We are proud to be European champions and we can’t wait to face teams from other continents,” Slegers stated. “We work really hard every day to win trophies. This is one of the things we can achieve this season. We are going to go all in and try to win the trophy.”
Navigating a Tough Season
While Arsenal currently sits third in the Women’s Super League trailing leaders Manchester City and recently faced a setback in the Women’s League Cup, the “Champions Cup” offers a chance for redemption. Slegers believes the squad’s “intelligence and willingness to take accountability” will be the deciding factor in the knockout stages.
