Atlético de Madrid have placed Thiago Almada on the transfer market and are prepared to negotiate his departure during the current transfer window. The Argentine attacking midfielder, who failed to reproduce his standout form from Botafogo, is no longer part of Diego Simeone’s plans and could be sold in the coming months.
Atlético set asking price for Almada
According to UOL Esporte, Atlético de Madrid are seeking €20 million (approximately R$126 million) for 50% of Thiago Almada’s economic rights. Despite setting a clear valuation, the Spanish club have yet to receive any official offers for the player.
Even so, Atlético remain confident that interest will emerge as the transfer window progresses, especially given Almada’s age, technical profile, and international experience.
Why Atlético are open to a sale
Financial and sporting factors have influenced Atlético’s decision. As reported by journalist Pedro Fullana of Cadena SER, the club must offload players before making new signings, making outgoing transfers a priority.
Almada is among the players with the fewest minutes in the current squad and operates in one of the most congested areas of the team. With limited opportunities and heavy competition in attacking midfield roles, the Argentine quickly became a leading candidate to be made available for transfer.
“The focus was on Almada because he’s the one playing the least. There’s overbooking on that flank. He was put on the market, but so far no offers have arrived,” Fullana explained.
From Botafogo star to uncertain future in Europe
Thiago Almada rose to prominence during a highly successful spell at Botafogo, where he became one of the standout players in a title-winning squad in 2024. His performances quickly drew attention from European clubs.
The following year, Almada made the move back to Europe, initially joining Lyon on loan before securing a transfer to Atlético de Madrid. However, he has struggled to establish himself in Spain and has yet to make a consistent impact.
Premier League interest and World Cup ambitions
According to Portuguese media, several Premier League clubs are monitoring Almada’s situation. The player is eager to secure regular playing time in order to regain form and remain in contention for selection by Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni ahead of the World Cup.
