Bayern Munich have stepped up their efforts to secure Dayot Upamecano’s future at the club, offering the French defender a lucrative new contract to ward off interest from Real Madrid. According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Bayern are prepared to pay Upamecano €20 million per year (approximately R$125.8 million), underscoring his importance to the club’s long-term plans.

Negotiations moving forward

Negotiations between Bayern and Upamecano are reportedly progressing well, with optimism on both sides. The main hurdle delaying a formal announcement remains agreement on the termination clause, which has been a sticking point for several months. Once resolved, the new contract is expected to be finalized quickly.

Bayern consider Upamecano a central figure for the future, and the proposed salary package makes it unlikely that competitors such as Real Madrid or PSG can match the offer, effectively taking them out of the race for the defender.

Real Madrid’s approach

Upamecano had previously signaled openness to a move to Real Madrid. As reported by Christian Falk, the French center-back gave the green light to join the Spanish giants next season, with Florentino Pérez reportedly willing to meet all contractual demands if he chose not to renew with Bayern.

However, Bayern’s counteroffer appears to have shifted the balance. Club management presented terms considered “irresistible,” and the expectation is that Upamecano will remain in Munich for the coming seasons.

The release clause remains a sticking point

While a new deal is close, Bayern and Upamecano are still negotiating the release clause, which the defender has reportedly pushed to a high figure. Executives are working to persuade him to lower the amount, though keeping Upamecano is a top priority, and the club may ultimately meet his demands.
