Loaned to Nottingham Forest, Douglas Luiz could create a €60 million problem for Juventus

Douglas Luiz has returned to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest, but Juventus risk financial headaches if his transfer clause isn’t triggered, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Juventus Career and Loan Exit

The Brazilian midfielder joined Juve in 2024 but struggled to secure a place. According to Sofascore, he played 26 matches across Serie A, the Champions League, and the Supercoppa Italiana totaling just 841 minutes and zero goals.

His last official appearance came at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, where he featured for 45 minutes. He also played a short cameo in a summer friendly against Borussia Dortmund.

With the 2025/26 season underway, Douglas Luiz was loaned to Nottingham Forest on a deal worth €3 million, with a €25 million buy option tied to performance clauses.

The Hidden Risk for Juventus

Journalist Fabio Russo (La Gazzetta dello Sport) warns that Juventus could face problems if neither Douglas Luiz nor Nico González’s transfers are made permanent. Together, the two represent €60 million in potential liabilities on Juve’s books.

In Douglas Luiz’s case, the permanent deal depends on him playing 15 matches of at least 45 minutes for Forest this season. While the clause looks achievable, doubts remain about his fitness after four muscle injuries last season and whether he’ll be trusted by new Forest coach Ange Postecoglou.

Waiting for His Forest Debut

Douglas Luiz has yet to debut for Nottingham Forest, remaining on the bench for the opening two Premier League fixtures. His next opportunity could come this Saturday (13), at 8:30 a.m. Brasília time, when Forest face Arsenal at the Emirates in the fourth round of the 2025/26 campaign.
