Sancho rejects Roma’s offer and could return to Borussia Dortmund

Jadon Sancho has rejected a move to AS Roma, halting negotiations with Manchester United despite both clubs reaching a financial agreement. The striker’s refusal is tied to one key factor: Roma’s absence from the Champions League, which Sancho sees as a non-negotiable part of his career trajectory.

Roma Deal Collapses Despite Agreement with United

Roma and United had aligned on a £20 million (€23.5m) transfer fee, but Sancho turned down the offer. The Englishman, who continues to train away from the first team, prioritizes competing in Europe’s top competition during the 2025/26 season.

With his refusal, Roma are expected to move on and seek other attacking reinforcements, as the club remains focused on strengthening its Serie A campaign and returning to European contention.

Borussia Dortmund Remains the Leading Option

Sancho’s decision has reignited speculation of a return to Borussia Dortmund, where he enjoyed the best period of his career. The Bundesliga side values their strong relationship with the player, who was pivotal in their run to the Champions League final two seasons ago.

Other clubs have been linked:

  • Juventus considered him but withdrew after signing Francisco Conceição.
  • Napoli showed interest but have yet to make formal progress.

Urgency at Manchester United

For United, the situation is pressing. Sancho is entering the final year of his contract in 2026, meaning that failing to secure a transfer now could result in him leaving for free next summer. The board is pushing for an immediate resolution to avoid losing their £73 million investment from 2021.
