Barcelona faces doubts over Gavi ahead of La Liga clash with Valencia

Barcelona may be without midfielder Gavi for their La Liga home debut against Valencia on September 14. The youngster felt knee discomfort this week, putting his availability in question despite coach Hansi Flick’s initial plan to reintegrate him.
Knee pain interrupts recovery
According to Catalan radio RAC1, Gavi experienced pain in his knee during training sessions. The medical staff will reassess his condition in the coming days to decide whether he will be fit for the crucial fixture at Montjuïc.
The 20-year-old had already been left out of the squad for the clash against Rayo Vallecano, with Flick explaining:
“The plan is to have him available for the Valencia match. We’ll see how he recovers.”
Positive preseason, setback in early season
Gavi was heavily involved in Barça’s preseason tour, shining with goals against FC Seoul and Daegu. His form raised expectations for his return as one of Flick’s key midfielders. However, this new setback could delay his competitive comeback.
Balde also sidelined
The midfielder isn’t the only concern for Barcelona. Earlier this week, left-back Alejandro Balde suffered a left hamstring injury in training. The club has not revealed a recovery timeline, but youngster Gerard Martín, recently registered for La Liga, is expected to step in.
Probable XI vs Valencia
Barcelona will open their home campaign on September 14 at 4 p.m. (Brasília time). Flick may rotate depending on players’ fitness, with several uncertainties in defense and attack.
A likely lineup: Joan García (Szczęsny); Koundé, Christensen (Araújo), Eric García, Gerard Martín; De Jong, Pedri, Dani Olmo (Fermín López); Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Ferrán Torres (Lewandowski or Rashford).
