Antony arrives at Real Betis and opens up about Manchester United: “Only I know how difficult it was”

Antony is officially a Real Betis player. The Spanish club announced the permanent signing of the 25-year-old Brazilian forward from Manchester United for €22 million, following his loan spell last season.
Emotional Return to Betis
Presented on Tuesday (September 2), Antony admitted that he had no doubts about his decision. “It was Betis or Betis. There was no other option. When I found out on Sunday, I cried a lot with my parents and family,” he said. The striker was welcomed warmly by the Betis fans, who celebrated his return.
Difficult Times at Manchester United
After returning to Old Trafford in the summer, Antony was informed he was not part of the club’s plans. He was then asked to train separately, a situation he described as one of the toughest moments of his career.
“I’ve been through some very difficult times in Manchester. Training separately… only I know how hard it was. But that moment has passed, and now I’m looking forward,” he revealed.
Other Offers Rejected
Antony confirmed that he had multiple offers on the table but only wanted Betis. “Of course, I was afraid the deal wouldn’t go through. I received offers from several clubs, but I just wanted to come to Betis. Each day I’m more certain it was the best decision of my life,” he explained.
Performance and Expectations
Last season, Antony made 26 appearances for Betis, scoring nine goals and providing six assists, becoming a key figure in the squad. In contrast, his time at Manchester United was limited, with just 14 appearances and one goal. Betis now hope he can repeat — or surpass — his impact from last year as they chase European ambitions.
