Real Madrid accepts Xabi Alonso’s demand and moves to pay Angelo Stiller’s release clause

Real Madrid may not be done in the transfer market. At the request of coach Xabi Alonso, the club is preparing to activate the release clause of German midfielder Angelo Stiller, currently at Stuttgart.

Xabi Alonso Wants a “New Kroos” in Midfield

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Merengues are ready to pay the €36 million (R$227.6 million) termination fee to secure Stiller. The 24-year-old has been on Madrid’s radar for months and is seen by Alonso as a player with similar traits to Toni Kroos, who retired last season.

The young midfielder is valued for his vision, precision passing, and ability to dictate tempo qualities that made him one of Stuttgart’s leaders in the 2024/25 campaign.

Stiller’s Numbers at Stuttgart

Stiller played 47 matches last season, contributing four goals and 11 assists, consolidating himself as one of the most consistent midfielders in the Bundesliga. His performances also increased speculation about a move to a European giant this summer.

Earlier, a swap deal between Madrid and Stuttgart had been discussed, but it failed to progress. Now, with Alonso pushing for reinforcements that fit his tactical system of three defenders, wingers, and two forwards, Florentino Pérez has greenlit the operation.

Real Madrid’s Market Moves

This summer, Madrid already secured Trent Alexander-Arnold, Álvaro Carreras, Dean Huijsen, and Franco Mastantuono. Stiller, however, would be a strategic addition to strengthen midfield depth and ensure a smooth transition post-Kroos.
