Iñaki Peña becomes a target for Como and Barcelona could be without goalkeepers for the season opener

Barcelona could face a goalkeeper shortage for their 2025/26 season opener, as the Catalan club grapples with multiple issues affecting their first-team goalkeepers.
Currently, the squad lists four goalkeepers: Marc-André ter Stegen, Joan García, Wojciech Szczęsny, and Iñaki Peña. However, three are unavailable. Ter Stegen is sidelined with a back injury requiring surgery and has been in conflict with the club’s board. García and Szczęsny remain unregistered due to Barcelona’s failure to comply with La Liga’s 1:1 registration rule, preventing them from playing under their new contracts.
This leaves Peña as the only fit goalkeeper for the first team. Yet, according to GOAL, Italian side Como reportedly managed by Cesc Fàbregas is interested in signing Peña, who is reportedly out of manager Flick’s plans. A departure would leave Barcelona without an experienced goalkeeper ahead of their La Liga opener against Mallorca on August 16 at Estadi Son Moix.
To manage finances, Barcelona has continued to sell players, including defender Iñigo Martínez, who moved to Al-Nassr in a deal expected to save the club around €14 million (approx. R$88.4 million).
Barcelona must quickly resolve their goalkeeper crisis to avoid being forced to rely on youth players for the season’s first competitive matches.
