Barcelona won the LaLiga title by beating Espanyol 2-0 in the Catalan derby this Thursday (15) at the Cornellá-El Prat stadium.

The first half was marked by a greater balance between the teams, with Barcelona dominating possession but finding it difficult to break through the home team’s defensive block.

The match took on new contours 8 minutes into the second half, when Lamine Yamal opened the scoring with a great goal, hitting a shot into the corner from outside the area.

Espanyol’s situation took a turn for the worse in the 34th minute when Leandro Cabrera was sent off after a VAR review for an elbow on Yamal.

With an extra player, Barcelona extended their lead in injury time with Fermín López, who received a pass from Yamal and finished with a cross to make it 2-0.

Barcelona showed greater offensive efficiency, finishing 11 times compared to Espanyol’s 9, with 4 on target compared to just 1 for the home team.

The victory took Barcelona to 85 points, opening up a 7-point lead over Real Madrid and mathematically securing the Spanish title with two rounds to spare.

For Espanyol, the defeat left the team with 39 points in 16th place, still at risk of relegation in the final rounds of the competition.
