With Gravenberch confirmed to be out, Szoboszlai stands out and becomes a key player for Liverpool

Liverpool will start their Premier League title defense without Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, who faces a one-match suspension after being sent off in the final game of last season. The absence opens the door for Dominik Szoboszlai and other midfield options to step up as the Reds host Bournemouth on August 15.

Gravenberch was integral to Liverpool’s title-winning campaign under manager Arne Slot, featuring in nearly every league match last season. His suspension adds to Liverpool’s pre-season challenges, which have included the emotional impact of Diogo Jota’s personal tragedy and the task of integrating multiple new signings.

Among the newcomers, Alexis Mac Allister has begun regaining match fitness, playing 30 minutes in Liverpool’s recent 3-1 friendly win over Yokohama F. Marinos. While Mac Allister is expected to be available for the season opener, other midfielders will also be evaluated as Liverpool adjusts their lineup in Gravenberch’s absence.

As the transfer window remains open until September 1, Liverpool may yet strengthen their squad further, but for now, Szoboszlai looks set to take on a pivotal role in midfield during a challenging start to the campaign.
