Authorities evaluate safety conditions to bring fans back to the iconic stadium

Key meeting scheduled

Barcelona is getting closer to returning to Camp Nou, but the final green light still depends on an important step. According to Catalunya Ràdio, a decisive meeting will be held on Monday, September 1st, with the presence of Deputy Mayor Laia Bonet, Fire Department chiefs, Urban Guard officials and Barça representatives. The goal is to decide if the stadium can reopen on September 14, when the team hosts Valencia in LaLiga.

Pending issues

Inspectors visited the construction site last Tuesday (26) and identified several problems: lack of signage, insufficient external lighting, incomplete emergency exits and stairs, and an unfinished press area. These adjustments must be resolved before approval.

Originally, Barça expected to return on August 10, but the reopening was postponed due to delays and safety requirements.

Locker room situation

Even if authorization is granted, Camp Nou’s main dressing rooms will remain unavailable, as renovation work continues. Barcelona and their opponents would use the two visitor locker rooms until the area is completed.

Billion-euro project

The Camp Nou renovation has a projected cost of €1.5 billion (around R$9 billion). Once completed, the venue will expand its capacity to 105,000 seats, maintaining its position as the largest stadium in European football.

Last game at Camp Nou

The last official match at the ground took place on May 28, 2023, when Barça defeated Mallorca 3-0 in LaLiga, with goals from Ansu Fati (2) and Gavi. That night also marked the farewells of Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, legends of the club. Since then, the team has been playing at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium.
