Barcelona receives request from Hansi Flick to sign full-back; Dumfries and Grimaldo in the spotlight

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has formally requested reinforcements at full-back ahead of the 2025/26 season. According to Sport, the German coach believes the squad needs a high-caliber defender capable of operating at an elite level on the flanks.
Barcelona Targets Grimaldo and Dumfries
The club is currently monitoring two names:
- Álex Grimaldo (Bayer Leverkusen – left-back)
- Denzel Dumfries (Inter Milan – right-back)
Both players have reportedly shown openness to a move, and crucially, fall within Barcelona’s financial parameters with Grimaldo valued at around €34 million and Dumfries at €40 million.
Registration Issues Still a Hurdle
Despite their affordability, Barcelona faces obstacles due to La Liga’s financial fair play rules. The club must first clear salary space and complete player sales before any new signings can be officially registered.
Even recent arrivals Joan García and Marcus Rashford have yet to be registered. According to club sources, sales of fringe players like Pau Víctor, Iñaki Peña, and possibly Andreas Christensen are being explored.
A major sale, such as Marc-André ter Stegen, would immediately resolve the issue but the German goalkeeper is not considering a departure at this stage.
Dumfries Favored by Flick
Among the two full-backs, Denzel Dumfries is said to be the preferred option for Flick. The Dutch international caught the manager’s eye during Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League encounters with Inter Milan.
Dumfries’ versatility makes him a highly attractive target. He can operate as a traditional right-back, as a wing-back, or even slot into a three-man defense due to his physical presence and tactical discipline.
