Arsenal confirm Kai Havertz’s knee surgery, but recovery could be quicker than expected

German forward should be sidelined for a maximum of two months, says English press

Surgery confirmed by Arsenal

Arsenal announced this Thursday (28) that Kai Havertz underwent knee surgery after suffering an injury in the Premier League opener against Manchester United. The striker left the pitch in the 30th minute and was immediately evaluated by the club’s medical department.

Although the Gunners avoided specifying a recovery timeline, The Athletic reports that the injury is not considered serious, and the forward is expected to return in up to two months. Arsenal highlighted in an official statement that Havertz will begin his rehabilitation program immediately, with the medical staff fully focused on accelerating his recovery.

Arsenal already moved in the market

Aware of the risk of losing key attackers, Arsenal acted decisively in the transfer market. The club secured Viktor Gyökeres, Noni Madueke, and Eberechi Eze as reinforcements for Mikel Arteta’s squad. The trio joins a frontline that could still see movement in the window, with names like Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka also in speculation.

Havertz, heavily used last season, had already missed the final stretch due to a tendon issue and now faces another pause in his continuity.

Clash with Liverpool on Sunday

Despite injuries, Arsenal remain unbeaten at the start of the season. Next Sunday (31), the Gunners face Liverpool at Anfield, in a duel between two title contenders. Both teams have won their opening matches, and the clash could already shape the early race for the Premier League top spot.

The last two meetings between Arsenal and Liverpool ended in 2–2 draws, and the rivalry grows sharper after the Reds dethroned Arteta’s team in the title race last season.
