Why São Paulo Will Earn Money from Ederson’s Potential Transfer from Manchester City

Brazilian club São Paulo FC is set to benefit financially if Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson is transferred this summer, thanks to FIFA’s solidarity mechanism for youth training compensation.

Although Ederson never debuted professionally for São Paulo, he was developed in the club’s youth academy. Under FIFA rules, clubs that contributed to a player’s training between the ages of 12 and 23 are entitled to a share of the transfer fee in international deals.

Potential Transfer Could Yield Over R$1.4 Million for São Paulo

Reports from journalist Alexandre Zanquetta suggest that Ederson’s estimated market value is €25 million (approximately R$161 million). If transferred for that amount, São Paulo could receive around €225,000, or roughly R$1.45 million, through the solidarity payment.

Ederson’s contract with Manchester City runs until June 2026, but with just one year left, the club may look to sell now to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year.

Saudi Arabia, MLS, and Galatasaray Reportedly Interested

Several clubs are monitoring Ederson’s situation, including teams in Saudi Arabia, Major League Soccer (MLS), and Galatasaray in Turkey. Galatasaray is reportedly ready to meet the player’s salary demands, which could accelerate talks in the coming weeks.

Although Ederson’s departure was speculated in previous windows, no official offers materialized. Now, with transfer season heating up, the 31-year-old’s future remains uncertain.

São Paulo’s Role in Ederson’s Early Career

Despite training at São Paulo, Ederson never played professionally for the club. He was released while still in the youth ranks and began his senior career in Portugal, with Ribeirão and Rio Ave, before making his name at Benfica.

In 2017, Ederson signed with Manchester City, where he became one of Pep Guardiola’s most reliable players, helping the club to multiple Premier League and Champions League titles.

While his next destination is still unknown, any move abroad would provide São Paulo with a valuable and unexpected financial boost.
