Casemiro expected to leave Manchester United in 2026; Flamengo and Palmeiras eye opportunity

Casemiro’s future at Manchester United is close to an end. According to the English newspaper Mirror, the Brazilian midfielder and defender Harry Maguire are not expected to renew their contracts, which expire in the summer of 2026. Both players are considered high earners in the squad and are likely to leave Old Trafford.

Casemiro’s possible next steps

At 33 years old in 2026, Casemiro will have two main options on the table:

  1. Accepting a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia, following the path of several European stars.
  2. Returning to Brazilian football, where he began his career at São Paulo.

In the Brazilian market, Flamengo and Palmeiras are seen as clubs that could try again. Both teams previously explored the possibility of signing the midfielder, but his salary demands proved to be an obstacle.

Salary in the Premier League

Casemiro currently earns an estimated £18 million per year (around R$131 million), which means nearly R$11 million per month. With these figures, neither Flamengo nor Palmeiras would be able to afford his wages under their current conditions, unless the player agreed to a significant pay cut to return home.

Casemiro’s journey with Manchester United

Since arriving from Real Madrid in 2022, Casemiro has been a key player for United, winning over fans with consistent performances. Recently, he has also regained space in the Brazilian national team, strengthening his chances of playing in the 2026 World Cup.

Recent message to Brazilian fans

Casemiro played in Brazil’s 3-0 victory over Chile at Maracanã, before receiving a yellow card that rules him out of the next qualifier against Bolivia. After the match, he left a message of optimism:

“The Brazilian people are starting to believe again that we can be world champions. This is an important point, and we have to prioritize it. This is the way forward,” said the midfielder.
