Richard Ríos Set to Join FC Porto After Roma Deal Collapses

Colombian midfielder Richard Ríos is on the verge of completing a move to FC Porto, after negotiations with AS Roma fell through despite a prior agreement on personal terms. Palmeiras, who currently hold the player’s rights, are preparing to finalize the transfer, which could reach a reported €30 million.

Ríos, 24, was one of the standout performers for Palmeiras during the FIFA Club World Cup, significantly boosting his market value. Several European clubs expressed interest in the midfielder, with Roma initially leading the race.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Serie A club was unable to reach a deal with Palmeiras despite agreeing to Ríos’s salary demands. That opened the door for a stronger push from Portugal, where both Porto and Benfica showed serious intent.

However, Porto have now taken the lead, with multiple sources including Portuguese outlet Porto Insider and Brazilian journalist Diego Firmino reporting that the club has received a verbal commitment from Ríos and his representatives. Porto is also reportedly willing to meet the €30 million fee initially demanded by Palmeiras.

While the deal appears imminent, it has not yet been formalized. As of now, no agreement between the clubs has been officially signed, although all parties are said to be optimistic about completing the transfer in the coming days.

Palmeiras’ Current Season

Palmeiras, under head coach Abel Ferreira, are currently fifth in the 2025 Brasileirão standings. The team drew 1–1 with Mirassol on July 16 and was booed off the pitch by sections of the fanbase.

So far this year, Palmeiras has played 38 matches, winning 23, drawing 10, and losing 5. The team has scored 60 goals and conceded just 25, maintaining one of the best defensive records in Brazil.
