Real Madrid x Borussia Dortmund: Jobe Bellingham was unaware of the rule that will keep him out of the quarterfinals

Football fans and one family in particular will miss a dream moment this weekend.
The highly anticipated first-ever professional showdown between Jude and Jobe Bellingham has been called off, as Borussia Dortmund’s Jobe Bellingham will miss the Club World Cup quarterfinal against Real Madrid this Saturday (July 5).
The reason? A yellow card that flew under the radar.
A Costly Mistake
Jobe, 19, was booked in the 29th minute of Dortmund’s 2–1 win over Monterrey in the Round of 16. Having already received a yellow in a prior match against Ulsan HD, the second caution triggered an automatic suspension.
What stings even more is that Jobe didn’t know the rule.
“He was very disappointed because he didn’t know exactly about the second yellow card,” said Dortmund coach Niko Kovač. “He was a bit surprised.”
The First Brother-vs-Brother Showdown That Won’t Happen—Yet
Had he played, it would’ve marked the first official professional meeting between Jobe and his older brother Jude Bellingham, the 22-year-old superstar currently shining at Real Madrid.
It was a moment football fans and the Bellingham family were looking forward to with excitement and emotion. Instead, they’ll have to wait for a future fixture, perhaps in the Champions League or even international football.
A Star on the Rise
Jobe joined Borussia Dortmund earlier this season after impressing at Sunderland, where he played a major role in the club’s return to the Premier League. His quick rise has mirrored his brother’s though their paths won’t cross on the pitch this Saturday.
