Barcelona Set to Sell Ter Stegen to Manchester United — But Only on One Condition

Marc-André ter Stegen’s time at Camp Nou may be coming to a quiet, yet decisive end.

FC Barcelona have reportedly agreed to negotiate a deal with Manchester United for the experienced goalkeeper but they’re holding firm on one clear condition: the offer must meet or exceed €20 million.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the La Liga giants are open to parting ways with the German international this summer, as Joan García, their new goalkeeper signing, is poised to take over the No. 1 spot in Hansi Flick’s squad.

A Shift in Barcelona’s Goalkeeping Future

At 33 and coming off a season limited to just 9 appearances due to injury, Ter Stegen has lost ground in Flick’s plans. With Barcelona now entering a squad rebuild focused on youth and mobility, the German veteran no longer appears untouchable.

Joan García, who impressed at Espanyol, is widely expected to take over between the posts in the second half of the season cementing the club’s intent to transition toward a younger core.

Manchester United Lead the Race

While several clubs including Galatasaray have shown interest, it’s Manchester United who are pushing hardest for Ter Stegen’s signature. The Red Devils are reportedly looking to strengthen their goalkeeping department and view the German as a short-term upgrade in experience and leadership.

Barcelona, however, have made it clear: €20 million is the minimum price tag. If United meet that valuation, the transfer could move quickly.

Cashing In for Nico Williams

Ter Stegen’s exit isn’t just about strategy it’s also about funding. Barcelona are still eager to sign Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, a long-time transfer target who nearly joined last season. Financial limitations prevented the move then, but with key sales like Ter Stegen’s, Barça hope to finally get the deal over the line.

The electric Spanish international is expected to cost a substantial fee, so offloading high-wage veterans is a necessary step to comply with La Liga’s financial regulations.

More Departures Incoming

Alongside Ter Stegen, midfielder Pablo Torre is also nearing an exit. After only 14 appearances under Flick, the 21-year-old is on the verge of joining Mallorca in a move aimed at getting regular first-team football.
