Musiala Breaks Silence After World Cup Injury and Defends Donnarumma

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has spoken out for the first time since suffering a serious leg injury during Bayern’s clash with Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup last Saturday (5). The 21-year-old German star expressed gratitude for the support he’s received and made a point to absolve Gianluigi Donnarumma of blame.

Musiala was injured late in the first half after a heavy collision with Donnarumma near the byline. The Italian goalkeeper’s challenge left Musiala clutching his left leg in visible agony, prompting immediate concern from teammates and opponents alike. He was stretchered off the pitch and later diagnosed with a fractured fibula and dislocated ankle, requiring surgery and several months of recovery.

Musiala: “There’s No One to Blame”

In a post shared on social media this Wednesday (9), Musiala addressed the incident for the first time, choosing to emphasize unity and understanding rather than blame.

“I want to thank everyone for the incredible support it truly means a lot to me. It’s amazing to see how the football world comes together in moments like this. I’m being well taken care of and I want to make it clear: there’s no one to blame for this. These things happen,” he wrote.

The midfielder’s statement appears aimed at calming criticism directed at Donnarumma, who had been under scrutiny especially from Bayern figures like Manuel Neuer following the incident.

Donnarumma’s Reaction and Musiala’s Recovery

Immediately after the injury, Donnarumma appeared shaken and buried his face in his shirt as teammates and medical staff rushed to Musiala’s aid. Although the Italian did apologize publicly, criticism followed, especially regarding the forcefulness of the tackle.

Musiala’s decision to defend the goalkeeper and emphasize the accidental nature of the play may ease tensions between both clubs and supporters.

“I’ll use this time to rebuild my strength and my mindset. I look forward to being back on the pitch soon,” Musiala concluded.

The midfielder is expected to be out of action for four to five months, ruling him out for the start of Bayern’s 2025/26 campaign and potentially delaying his return to the German national team.
