Lucas Vázquez Rejects Botafogo and Eyes Return to Deportivo La Coruña

After parting ways with Real Madrid, veteran winger Lucas Vázquez is nearing a surprising move to Deportivo La Coruña, turning down an offer from Brazil’s Botafogo.

Free Agent After Real Madrid Exit

The 34-year-old, a five-time UEFA Champions League winner, officially left Real Madrid following the 2025 Club World Cup. While he spent much of his career as a backup, Vázquez is widely respected for his contributions to one of the most successful eras in the club’s history.

Now a free agent, the Spaniard is assessing options for what may be the final chapter of his career.

Deportivo La Coruña Set to Sign Hometown Hero

According to Fichajes, Deportivo La Coruña currently playing in Spain’s Segunda División is close to signing the former Madrid star. The move would mark a homecoming for Vázquez, who was born in A Coruña and reportedly views the idea of retiring at his hometown club as “appealing.”

The potential signing would provide Deportivo with an experienced leader, as they aim to return to La Liga in the near future.

Botafogo Tried, but Vázquez Said No to Brazil

Brazilian club Botafogo also attempted to sign the winger, as reported by Defensa Central. The move was reportedly suggested by Davide Ancelotti, who previously worked with Vázquez during his time as assistant at Real Madrid.

Despite the Brazilian side’s interest, Vázquez was not convinced by a move to South America and chose to explore European offers instead.

Still in Demand Across Europe

Even at 34, Vázquez remains a hot commodity. His 2024/25 season included 53 appearances, two goals, and seven assists, proving he can still contribute at a high level. Multiple European clubs have expressed interest, but Deportivo La Coruña appears to be the frontrunner.

Real Madrid Looking Ahead

Meanwhile, Real Madrid is actively reshaping its squad and is reportedly targeting Rodri from Manchester City. The Spanish giants are said to be preparing a €100 million bid, although City currently has no intention to sell.
