Esequiel Barco Wants to Join Flamengo — But R$102 Million Price Tag Could Block the Deal

Argentine star dreams of playing alongside Arrascaeta, but Spartak Moscow’s demands are steep
A familiar name to Flamengo fans could soon wear the red and black. Esequiel Barco, the Argentine winger who once crushed Flamengo’s hopes in the 2017 Copa Sudamericana final, is now pushing for a move to the club but his price tag is making negotiations complicated.
Barco Wants Flamengo — and the Feeling Is Mutual
Currently playing for Spartak Moscow, the 26-year-old Argentine is eager to return to South America. According to Russian outlet Championat, Barco has expressed a desire to join Flamengo, attracted by the opportunity to play under Filipe Luís and alongside stars like Arrascaeta.
“He sees Flamengo as the perfect next step,” said a source close to the player.
Flamengo also reportedly sees Barco as an ideal fit for their attacking lineup, thanks to his versatility capable of playing across the front line, from the wings to central attacking roles.
The Sticking Point: R$102 Million
While the interest is real on both sides, Spartak Moscow has slapped a R$102 million price tag (approx. €16 million) on Barco a figure Flamengo considers too high for a single player in this window.
That said, according to journalist Romário Júnior (via Bolavip Brasil), there’s been a verbal agreement for a reduced fee of R$89 million. If true, the deal may be more alive than fans expect.

Why Flamengo Fans Remember Barco
Barco earned infamy among Flamengo supporters when he scored against them in the 2017 Copa Sudamericana final while playing for Independiente a goal that helped the Argentine club lift the trophy in the Maracanã.
Now, years later, he could go from villain to hero at the Maracanã if Flamengo finalizes the deal.
Is Barco Worth the Investment?
Although once compared to stars like Vinícius Jr., Barco hasn’t quite hit those heights. Still, his combination of experience, technical skill, and versatility makes him a valuable asset especially for a club aiming to dominate both domestically and internationally.
Should Flamengo spend nearly R$90 million to bring in Barco? Or wait for a cheaper option?
