Flamengo Open to Selling Pedro — But Monterrey’s Offer Falls Short of Expectations

Mexican giants eye Mengão’s top scorer, but €10M proposal may not be enough to seal the deal
Flamengo could be preparing to say goodbye to one of its most iconic strikers. According to journalist Mauro Cezar, the Rio de Janeiro club is open to negotiating Pedro, who has been with the team since 2021 and is currently their top scorer.
The first club to make a move? Monterrey, from Mexico. But their offer might not even get Flamengo to the table.
Monterrey’s Proposal: Below Market Value
According to O Globo, Monterrey recently inquired about Pedro’s availability and signaled an offer of €10 million (R$63 million) far below Flamengo’s expectations. Internal sources at the club told Mauro Cezar that a bid of at least €15 million (R$95 million) would be seen as acceptable.
Even that would be a bargain compared to Pedro’s estimated market value of €22 million (R$140 million) on Transfermarkt. With a contract running until December 2027, Flamengo is under no pressure to sell unless the price is right.
Why Would Flamengo Sell Their No. 9?
Despite Pedro’s status and scoring record, Flamengo’s leadership is ready for change. Coach Filipe Luís reportedly wants a striker with more mobility and defensive involvement a contrast to Pedro’s more traditional center-forward style.
While the club officially denies any interest in selling, Mauro Cezar revealed that internal discussions suggest otherwise. The board is open to listening if a fair offer arrives.
Flamengo’s Dream Signing: Dušan Vlahović?
In a recent interview, Flamengo’s football director José Boto admitted that his “dream signing” for the striker position would be Dušan Vlahović, the Serbian star currently at Juventus.
“The hardest part isn’t money it’s convincing him to leave Europe,” Boto admitted.
While a Vlahović deal seems far-fetched, it signals the ambition behind Flamengo’s next move in the transfer market.
