Brazilian club intensifies efforts to land high-profile European forward

Botafogo have opened talks to sign Mehdi Taremi from Inter Milan, aiming to add a marquee name to their attacking line-up. The move is part of club owner John Textor’s broader plan to build a title-contending squad in the Brazilian Serie A.

Club in Direct Talks With Taremi’s Representatives

According to journalist Thiago Franklin, Botafogo has already contacted the Iranian striker’s representatives and expressed strong interest in a potential transfer. While Inter Milan has yet to define Taremi’s role for the upcoming season, the Brazilian club is eager to press forward.

Taremi, who only recently joined Inter, remains a prominent name in European football following successful stints at Porto and Persepolis. His arrival would represent a significant coup for Glorioso.

Financial Challenges Could Block the Deal

Despite the club’s determination, the negotiation is described as “very difficult” at this stage. The primary obstacle is the financial package demanded by the striker, both in transfer fee and wages. While exact figures have not been disclosed, sources indicate the total cost could exceed €10 million.

John Textor is personally backing the pursuit of Taremi, but the club remains cautious following recent high-spending campaigns. Botafogo has already brought in midfielder Danilo, and more reinforcements are expected but the club is wary of overcommitting.

Taremi a Priority for Botafogo’s Attack

Taremi is seen as a potential game-changer for the club’s offensive setup. Known for his physicality, intelligence, and goal-scoring instinct, the 31-year-old forward could immediately elevate Botafogo’s attacking options.

Whether Inter Milan is willing to negotiate remains unclear. Taremi joined the Italian giants on a free transfer in 2024 and may still be in the plans of head coach Simone Inzaghi for the upcoming Serie A and Champions League campaigns.

Botafogo Eyes More European Talent

Botafogo’s ambition in the transfer market reflects a shift in Brazilian football, with clubs increasingly looking to bring in established European names. The Rio de Janeiro-based side is expected to make further moves in the coming weeks as the squad rebuild continues.
