Chelsea beats Espérance and guarantees qualification to the round of 16 of the Club World Cup
In a game with few emotions, the blues had no difficulty in beating their opponent, who created little in the match.
In Group D, Chelsea beat Espérance 3-0 this Tuesday (24), in the third and final round of the 2025 Club World Cup . With this result, the blues guarantee qualification for the knockout phase of the tournament, occupying the second position with six points won – three less than the leader Flamengo. Espérance says goodbye to the competition finishing its participation in third place with three points added.
With most of their starters rested and despite being the favorites, Chelsea struggled to threaten the opposing defense until they opened up a two-goal lead in first-half injury time. With the result in their favor, the team led by Enzo Maresca did not suffer during the rest of the match and remained calm to come away with a positive result.
Open advantage in injury time
The first half was marked by bureaucratic possession by the English team, who exchanged more passes than their opponents, but without posing any danger to Ben Said’s goal. Espérance remained deep, waiting for the counterattack and making life difficult for Chelsea, who were unable to infiltrate the defense for almost the entire first half.

In the five minutes of added time, the Blues found the net twice, both goals assisted by Enzo Fernández. The first came from a free kick from the midfielder, with Adarabiyo heading it into the keeper’s left corner. Enzo then found Delap running into the penalty area; he dribbled past the defender and scored a fine goal – his first for Chelsea.
Without taking big risks
Chelsea remained calm throughout the rest of the match without taking any risks in defense. At a disadvantage, the Tunisian team lost strength throughout the game, without even trying to react.
In the 52nd minute of the second half, there was time for Tyrique George to receive the ball from Andrey at the edge of the area and hit it firmly with his right foot towards the goal, increasing the score.
