Milan director says Modric was hired to be a leader

After more than a decade of dominance in the heart of Real Madrid’s midfield, Luka Modrić is set for a new chapter in his illustrious career. The Croatian icon has signed a two-year contract with AC Milan, marking the end of an era at the Santiago Bernabéu and the beginning of a new leadership role at San Siro.

Deal Confirmed: Modrić Signs for Milan

According to AC Milan director Igli Tare, the 39-year-old midfield maestro has agreed to join the Rossoneri with the clear objective of competing for titles in Italy and Europe. His transfer will be officially completed at the end of June 2025, when his Real Madrid contract expires.

“We are ready to bring in Luka Modrić. We need new leaders,” said Tare. “Modrić can be a key player for us.”

Not Just a Farewell – A Competitive Challenge

Despite his age, Modrić reportedly does not see the move as a farewell tour, but rather as a serious opportunity to win trophies. The former Ballon d’Or winner wants to leave his mark in Serie A and help Milan reclaim its European elite status.

With Milan in need of experienced figures in midfield, Modrić is expected to become a leader on and off the pitch, guiding younger talents and strengthening the club’s spine.

Real Madrid’s Midfield Void

Modrić’s departure from Real Madrid leaves a significant gap in the team’s midfield dynamics. Manager Xabi Alonso is now in search of a player who can replicate the Croatian’s tactical intelligence, control, and composure.

Although the club attempted to sign Martín Zubimendi, the Spaniard opted for a move to Arsenal. As a potential replacement, Modrić has reportedly recommended Vitinha from Paris Saint-Germain, a player he believes has the technical ability and vision to thrive in Madrid’s midfield.

Modrić’s Legacy at Real Madrid:

  • 26 titles with the club, including 5 UEFA Champions League trophies
  • Over 500 appearances in all competitions
  • Ballon d’Or winner (2018) – the first post-Messi/Ronaldo era winner
  • Revered for his leadership, elegance, and unmatched football IQ
