First half summary
While one team created, created and didn’t score. The other created little, but scored. This sums up the first half of São Paulo x Grêmio at the Morumbis stadium. It didn’t take even a minute for the home team to scare with a shot from André Silva. During the first half, there were at least three more good chances for Zubeldía’s team, which also failed to convert with Lucas Ferreira and Luciano.
On the other hand, Grêmio, coached by Sidney Lobo, showed great efficiency this Saturday. In the 36th minute, the team took advantage of a mistake by Pablo Maia to launch a lethal counterattack and open the scoring. Monsalve found a great pass to Aravena, who took off, invaded the area and hit with his left foot to make it 1-0 for the visitors.
Second half summary
São Paulo returned in the best possible way for the second half. Still in the 3rd minute, Enzo Díaz took a perfect free kick for Arboleda to head in and equalize the score at Morumbi. Grêmio didn’t even have time to work on the advantage after the break.
The draw allowed the home team to impose themselves in the game, while the Grêmio team looked for counterattacks to scare. In one such response, at 30 minutes, Marlon came face to face with Rafael, who saved São Paulo from conceding the second goal.
The defense kept Zubeldía’s team in the game, and the comeback didn’t take long to happen. In the 32nd minute, Luciano fell in the area after contact with Camilo, and the referee awarded a penalty (only confirmed after a VAR review). André Silva displaced Tiago Volpi to take the shot and gave São Paulo the victory.
Grêmio still had the chance to equalize in the last minute with Wagner Leonardo, who was stopped by Rafael.
