Vasco beats Fortaleza and leaves the relegation zone in the Brasileirão

Vasco’s Recovery

In Fernando Diniz’s first match at São Januário, Vasco dominated Fortaleza and won 3-0 this Saturday in the Brasileirão. Nuno opened the scoring in the first minutes of the first half. Leão de Pici even managed to balance the initiatives. But Vasco scored again at the beginning of the second half, with Vegetti. Near the end, the Argentine scored again to close the score.

Classification

With the victory, Vasco reached 10 points and left 17th place, in the relegation zone, and reached 10th place, momentarily.

Fortaleza remains with 10 points, but has dropped to 13th. The games that will still be played in this round may change the positions.

First half

The match started off with a bang at São Januário. In the first minute, Léo Jardim failed to get out of the game and almost allowed Breno Lopes to score. Vasco responded immediately. In a beautiful play, Nuno exchanged passes with Hugo and received the ball to score. For twenty minutes, the game remained balanced and with dangerous attacks from both teams, who took advantage of counterattacks. In the second half of the first half, Vasco retained more possession of the ball and played their game on the Vojvoda team’s field. Rayan, Nuno and Coutinho created opportunities, mainly from distance, but failed to get closer to the goal. Leão de Pici lost a lot of intensity and was unable to demonstrate the same transition power and also failed to maintain possession.

Second half

Vasco repeated the scoring pattern in the second half. One minute into the game, Paulo Henrique made a beautiful play on the right and passed to Vegetti to score Vasco’s second goal. Trailing on the scoreboard, Fortaleza began to pressure Vasco’s ball out and had more possession of the ball. Vojvoda made changes to make his team more aggressive. Pochettino took responsibility and made Léo Jardim work on good finishing. The offensive volume, however, was not enough to cause much trouble for Diniz’s team. In the 19th minute, Marinho took a swipe at Piton and was sent off. In the confusion, Coutinho ended up pushing the Fortaleza forward and also received a red card. Despite having less possession of the ball, Vasco was getting closer to scoring. In the 29th minute, Rayan shot a shot off the post. And five minutes later, Vegetti scored the third after receiving a pass in the six-yard box. Leão de Pici reacted again with Pochettino, but the midfielder was stopped by Léo Jardim. Adson had a clear chance at the end of the game, but he didn’t finish well and didn’t pass to Loide, who was in a great position to score. After the whistle, Fernando Diniz had his name chanted by the Vasco fans.
