Real Madrid beats Mallorca in the last seconds and prevents Barcelona’s early title

Summary

Real Madrid crushed Mallorca from start to finish, suffered, but managed to turn the match around to win 2-1 with a goal in the 49th minute of the second half, scored by youngster Jacobo Ramón. The victory at the Santiago Bernabéu prevented Barcelona from being crowned Spanish champions without even playing.

Real Madrid dominated the first half, with more possession (64%) and a superiority in shots (13 to 1), but Mallorca were more effective and took advantage of a slack in the marking, opening the scoring with Vajlent, in the 10th minute. The result was quite unfair considering the production of both teams.

In the second half, Los Blancos did not lose their momentum, increasing their possession (72%) and registering an impressive number of shots: 26 (39 in total). The first goal came from Mbappé, who had been playing very well since the first half. The victory came from a lob from Fran García that ended up being taken advantage of by Jacobo Ramón, just 20 years old and playing his fifth professional match.

Real Madrid Schedule

Second-placed Real Madrid with 78 points, face Sevilla away on Sunday. The LaLiga 2024/2025 farewell is scheduled for the 28th, against Real Sociedad, at home.

Is a miracle possible?

To be crowned champions, Real Madrid need to beat Sevilla and Real Sociedad and hope that Barcelona only take one point from their last three games, against Espanyol, Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao.

In other words, if Barcelona wins the Catalan derby against Espanyol this Thursday, the title will go to Barça.
